Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy New Year!
It’s that time of year again and since my husband is Chinese, I’m privileged to enjoy this special Chinese/Asian celebration every year. This is the year the monkey which just happens to be my son’s birth year.
This year our friend of ours, Katie was visiting from Texas and we headed over to Little Saigon, here in Southern California.
The above store was one of many stands in the parking lot of the Little Saigon Mall called Asian Garden Mall. See this article in LA Times about it. We were there when they were filming. Great fun! I’ve picked out a few pictures to share here.
If you’d like to read more about the Chinese New Year celebration, what it is, the symbolism and mythology, read my blog from last year here on my web site. You’ll also learn what foods the Chinese like to eat during this celebration.
Notice the red paper dragon hanging in the store below. If you were born in the year of the dragon you are indeed a very lucky person as this is the most revered sign.
Below is Katie purchasing a cute Monkey sign which also just happens to be her birth year too!
And we cannot forget about the lion dances.
I hope where ever you live you’ll eat out at a Chinese restaurant and enjoy the celebrations!
